Maximum Message Size and Number of Recipients

There are restrictions for receiving and sending mail through QS ISP's mail servers, specifically, the message size and the number of recipients per message. For more information and instructions, please select from the list below.

Maximum Message Size - Receiving email

[Effective Tuesday, July 29th, 2003]

The maximum message size any user can receive through the QS ISP mail servers is roughly 4 MB by default. If someone sends you an email that is larger than the limit, they will receive the following message:

552 Sorry, your message is larger than that address is configured to accept. Forward this response to the intended recipient to increase the maximum message size by following the online directions at mailnews/maximum.asp.

To change the maximum message size:

  1. Go to my QS ISP.
  2. Log on with your QS ISP email address and password.
  3. On the Services menu, select Service Settings and then Max Message Size.

  4. Place a check in the check box next to the email that you want to change and the desired maximum message size from the Select Message Size drop-down menu. Click the Change button.

  5. A page will indicate whether the change took effect by displaying the following message:

Your max message size username@ QS ISP.net has been changed to "X"MB, effective immediately.
(X = the number you selected in the message size drop-down menu)

  6. To view the new message size setting, return to the Max Message Size page in the Services > Service Settings menu. Once a custom maximum message size is selected, it will be displayed as *X MB*, where X is the size you selected.

Maximum Message Size - Sending email

The maximum message size any user can send through the QS ISP mail servers is roughly 25MB. If you need to convey a large file by email, you may want to compress it, or break the message into smaller pieces. See Attachments for more information.

Maximum Number of Recipients

The maximum number of recipients you can send to per message is one hundred (100). This is to help prevent spam messages from originating from our network.

Note: We offer Mail List services that will allow you to send messages to more than one hundred (100) recipients. See our Mailman Mail List FAQ for more information.

Help us help you! If you contact QS ISP support for assistance please write down any error messages you get when trying to connect to the Internet. Include the name and version of your operating system and the exact text of all error messages. If this information is included in an online case submission or provided to a support representative, it will greatly speed up the troubleshooting process.

Please be aware that some troubleshooting may require uninstallation and reinstallation of operating system files. To ensure that this type of troubleshooting can be accomplished if required, please be sure that you have to have original Operating System CD or Operating system source files on disk on hand.
