Norton AntiVirus Email Settings

If you use Norton AntiVirus software your email settings may have changed and do not allow you to receive/send email. Please refer to the one of the following articles from Symantec. These articles provide an explanation of why the changes occur as well as a solution to the problem of not being able to receive email.

How to reconfigure your email settings and disable Email Protection

If you are unable to receive email, the changes made by Norton AV can be changed back manually. To do so in Outlook Express:

  1. Open Outlook Express.
  2. Click Tools.
  3. Select Accounts.
  4. Click on the Mail tab.
  5. Click one time on your email account to select it.
  6. Click on Properties.
  7. Click on the Servers tab.
  8. Change the incoming mail server from 127.0.0.1 to mail. QS ISP.net.
  9. Remove the / and anything following it (mail. QS ISP.net) from the Account Name: field, leaving only your QS ISP username.
  10. Hit Apply and then OK.
  11. Click Close.
NOTE: If you do not disable Email Protection, the settings may be changed back after certain actions, such as running LiveUpdate. It is recommended that you disable Email Protection if you are going to reconfigure your program.

To disable NAV email protection:
  1. Exit any email programs that may be running.
  2. Open Norton AntiVirus.
  3. Click Options.
  4. Click Email Protection.
  5. Uncheck all boxes in the Protected email clients box.
  6. Uncheck "Enable email protection (recommended)".
  7. Click OK.
NOTE: Disabling Email Protection does not leave you unprotected against viruses that are included in email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect will scan any incoming files, including email, as they are saved to your hard drive. Email Protection is just another layer on top of this. Use LiveUpdate to keep your virus definitions up to date, and keep Auto-Protect enabled. (From Symantec)
